Advances in Bioanalytical Tools for the

Characterization of In-Process Viral Samples

Presenter:

Sofia B. Carvalho, PhD
Senior Research Associate,
iBET

Sofia Carvalho is a senior research associate at the Animal Cell Technology Unit of iBET. She has a background in biochemistry, and received her doctoral degree in biotechnology from ITQB-NOVA in 2018. Her PhD research was in downstream processing strategies for Influenza VLPs and the development of analytical tools for bioprocess optimization and product characterization. Sofia did part of her doctoral studies at the Max Planck Institute for the Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems (Germany) and Pall Life Sciences (United Kingdom).

In early 2018, she joined Genibet Biopharmaceuticals to work as a project manager on viral process development and CGMP manufacturing. Sofia's research interests are mainly related to downstream processing and analytical tools for biopharmaceuticals, covering protein, and virus and VLP production (from cell expansion to product purification). Currently, she's focused on the impact of operating variables on process performance and product quality.
