Dr. Marcel Thoen is the Head of the Global Competence Center for Cell Line Development at Wacker Biotech. Previously, he was Head of Upstream Processing at the Wacker Biotech site in Halle and group leader in the central R&D department of Wacker Chemie AG in Munich with focus on different biotechnological topics (e.g. production of natural compounds by metabolic engineering of E. coli and yeasts; continuous improvement of the proprietary E. coli-based ESETEC system for secretory production of recombinant proteins). He holds a Bachelor and Master of Science from Leibniz University of Hannover (Germany) with focus on Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Natural Products Chemistry and Bioinformatics, and a PhD in Molecular Biology from the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology in Jena (Germany) with focus on “oxidative stress response and regulation of iron homeostasis in filamentous fungi.”
